Tournament Player Selection
Welcome to the Tournament Selection Guide! This document explains how players are selected for tournaments, how randomness plays a role, and what you can do to increase your chances of being picked.
How Players Are Selected
Our selection process aims to create a fair and competitive tournament by considering player activity, engagement, and recent participation. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of how players are selected:
-
Initial Player Pool: All players who registered for the tournament are added to the Player Pool.
-
Score Calculation: Each player is assigned a score based on their Boosts and Pals.
-
Penalties and Bonuses: Scores are adjusted with penalties and bonuses to balance participation and fairness.
-
Eligibility Check: Players with a final score less than 0 are excluded.
-
Sorting: Players are sorted based on specific criteria to prioritize active participants.
-
Random Sampling: A final random selection is made from the sorted list to fill the tournament slots.
Detailed Selection Process
1. Initial Player Pool
Players who registered for the tournament are added to the Player Pool. Eligibility include pals holding and boosts
2. Score Calculation
Each player starts with a base score of 1 point. Additional points can be earned through:
- Boosts: For every 20 boosts, you earn 0.5 points.
- Huddle Pal NFTs: Each Huddle Pal NFT you own adds 0.5 points to your score.
Example:
- If you have 40 boosts, you get an extra 1 point (40 boosts ÷ 20 * 0.5).
- Owning 3 Huddle Pal NFTs adds 1.5 points (3 NFTs * 0.5).
3. Penalties and Bonuses
Penalties
-
In-Progress Tournaments: If you’re currently participating in another ongoing tournament, 40 points are subtracted from your score.
-
Recent Tournament Participation: If you’ve participated in a tournament that ended within the last 7 days, 15 points are subtracted.
Bonuses
- Missed Tournaments: For each completed tournament you did not participate in, 5 points are added to your score.
Note: These adjustments aim to give opportunities to players who haven’t had recent chances to participate.
4. Eligibility Check
Players with a final score of 0 or higher move on to the next stage. If your score falls below 0 after penalties and bonuses, you won’t be eligible for selection in this tournament.
5. Sorting
Eligible players are sorted based on:
- PVP Match Participation: Players who have completed at least one PVP match are prioritized.
- Score: Within the group of players who have (or haven’t) played PVP matches, players are sorted in descending order of their scores.
6. Random Sampling
From the sorted list, a random selection is made to fill 16 tournament slots. This means even if you’re lower on the list, you still have a chance to be selected due to the randomness factor.
How Randomness Affects Selection
While we prioritize players based on PVP participation and score, the final selection is random. This approach ensures that all eligible players have a fair chance of being selected, preventing the same group of players from always participating.
Increasing Your Chances
To improve your chances of being selected for a tournament:
- Boost Your Score:
- Collect Boosts: Every 20 boosts add 0.5 points to your score.
- Acquire Huddle Pal NFTs: Each one adds 0.5 points.
- Participate in PVP Matches:
- Completing at least one PVP match moves you into a higher priority group during sorting.
- Manage Tournament Participation:
- Avoid Overlapping Tournaments: Try not to be in an ongoing tournament when the selection happens to avoid the 40-point penalty.
- Space Out Your Participation: If possible, avoid participating in tournaments that end within 7 days of each other to prevent the 15-point penalty.
- Missed Tournaments:
Entering tournaments and not making it in the tournament can inadvertently increase your score through the 5-point bonus per missed tournament.
Remember: The goal is to balance fairness and opportunity. Active participation in the community through boosts, NFTs, and PVP matches enhances your standing.
Summary
- Selection is a combination of score-based ranking and randomness.
- Scores are influenced by boosts, NFTs, recent tournament activity, and PVP matches.
- Randomness ensures all eligible players have a chance to participate.
- Increase Your Chances by boosting your score and being strategic about your tournament participation.
We hope this guide helps you understand the selection process and empowers you to take steps to increase your chances of being selected. Good luck, and we look forward to seeing you in the tournament!
